entry#9-media synthesize...

Image
With the Internet being such a big place, it can be very easy to fall for misleading information. There are actually a lot of things which I have paid more attention to like fake news , consumerism, and also how social media can affect someone's mental health.  The biggest thing I've noticed regarding media is that it is rare when news outlets and articles give out information without bias or opinion. Even the tone of an article can point to the position the author may be taking. To decide what articles are reliable one needs to look at the publishers and authors of those articles. Although we may know what position we take it is easy to be influenced by news outlets we have watched for years.  Some of these incidents I've noticed have actually occurred recently. With TikTok around, people can easily share their opinions on certain issues worldwide. These videos provide information which allow people to make their own decisions regarding those issues, and I believe that is ...

entry#10-experiments...

Image
We've all done experiments in the past. Whether they were in school or just personal everyday things. There are also experts who do experiments to test their findings or what they believe in. An experiment  I remember talking about in Psychology class, which was extremely controversial, was the  Stanford Prison Experiment .  This experiment was led by American psychologist Philip G. Zimbardo in 1971. The plan was to recruit 24 college students through an ad and they'd be paid $15 a day. According to  Zimbardo , the reason for this experiment was to investigate what regular people would do if given authority over other people in a prison environment (for this experiment) .  The students were divided into two groups, the guards and the prisoners. Zimbardo noticed that merely hours into the experiment both groups were adapting easily to their roles. The "guards" used control tactics and humiliation to keep the "prisoners" in control.  An experiment...

entry#8- the lost colony...

Image
As human beings we all have things we're curious about or things we've never stopped thinking of. Ever since I learned about  The Lost Colony of Roanoke  I've been extremely interested in what actually happened to it.  Some background information; in August of 1587 a colony of English settlers joined John White on an expedition to the "New World". The "New World" referring to the Americas, specifically North Carolina. About 115 people (men, women, and children) followed him overseas to create a settlement and eventually expand. That same year, John White decided to sail back to England to acquire more supplies. Because of the war between  England and Spain , he couldn't return right away. He was only able to return three years later.  When he did return, the settlement was deserted. The 115 people he had left were gone. There were no obvious signs that explained what had happened.   While no one truly knows what occurred to the colonists, there a...

entry#7- hashtags: fun and important...

Image
I'm sure everyone who uses Tik-tok, Instagram, or X knows what a hashtag is or has come across one. For those who don't know, it is basically a phrase or word used on a post to help categorize it. Hashtag's also make it easier when searching about specific topics. Some popular hashtags which everyone knows of are #trending, #photography, #travel, etc. I have never used them, but I do believe they're important.  Through the use of hashtags people are able to connect easily online and share their experiences. A prime example of this is the #MeToo movement. This movement allowed women to share their experiences with sexual violence and create an online community of allies. Women were speaking out against their aggressors because they saw that other women experienced similar things. Another hashtag which was recently trending and probably still is, is the #Erastour. It is based on Taylor Swift's recent tour, which started in March of 2023 and is set to end in December...

Entry#3- slanted report...

Image
Hello everyone,  Today I will be talking about biased news . If you live on Earth it is more than likely you've come across slanted reporting or biased news. Two obvious news stations which are very clear on their political views are Fox News and CNN. It is important to know how to identify when a report is clearly being biased because that could definitely affect your beliefs and values or lead to misinformation. So in this entry I will be writing about a video on Fox News . We are well aware that Fox News is a conservative news station and will likely side with republican views. Source image 1 The video is about a news report in which the two reporters are conversing about why abortion is a hot topic for the presidency. The video starts off neutral. One of the reporters (the woman), states that she once sided with the left, but recently had become conservative. She goes on to state that women should have access to abortions because at the end of the day there are plenty of ...

Entry#6- the ocean...

Image
Hello everyone,  Today I will be writing about the ocean. There was a point in time in which I wanted to be a marine biologist to study animals and their environment. Although I do not like the ocean all together, I do enjoy seeing the different species of animals and plants that thrive in it. I'm not at all an ocean expert, but I will be sharing my favorite animals or the ones which I find most interesting.  A species of animal which caught my eye ever since I first heard about it was the umbrella octopus (aka dumbo octopus). The reason I chose this animal was because I found that they were cuter than most sea creatures. The picture may give it away but the reason behind the name was the fins which resemble Dumbo's ears from the Disney movie. This octopus is the deepest living of its species. Contrary to popular belief not all octopuses have an ink sac, the Dumbo octopus is one of them. According to Oceana , "..the Dumbo octopus doesn't have an ink sac because it ra...

Entry#5- local story respond...

Hello everyone,  Growing up I always knew that I wanted to go to college. My parents always told me that there would be better opportunities for me if I continued my education after high school and got at least a bachelor's degree. I loved learning so it was kind of easy to make that decision, but I know people who always knew they didn't wish to attend college. Source image 1 The first article talks about how higher education is extremely important because the opportunities are more if you obtain a bachelor's degree or higher. Seeing that article made me realize how important it is to continue one's education. I honestly thought it wasn't as big of a deal as it is. It is easier said than done, but I think if the government helps people obtain their degree's a lot more people would be willing to continue their education. It's incredibly important for students to feel that if they want to continue their education, they can.  The second article shows the st...
