Entry#3- slanted report...

 Hello everyone,

Today I will be talking about biased news. If you live on Earth it is more than likely you've come across slanted reporting or biased news. Two obvious news stations which are very clear on their political views are Fox News and CNN. It is important to know how to identify when a report is clearly being biased because that could definitely affect your beliefs and values or lead to misinformation. So in this entry I will be writing about a video on Fox News. We are well aware that Fox News is a conservative news station and will likely side with republican views.

The video is about a news report in which the two reporters are conversing about why abortion is a hot topic for the presidency. The video starts off neutral. One of the reporters (the woman), states that she once sided with the left, but recently had become conservative. She goes on to state that women should have access to abortions because at the end of the day there are plenty of reasons behind why someone would choose to have an abortion. After that, another reporter (a man), is asked to share his opinion on the issue. It is clear that he leans republican and states that republicans want to give women other choices which include keeping the baby and then giving it up for adoption, but their intentions are not to punish women. He states that women choose to have abortions after the first trimester because they decide in the end that they don't want the child.

The issue with this video is that when he talks about an abortion, he uses the phrase "slicing up the child into many pieces" to describe an abortion after the first trimester. What he doesn't state is the fact that most women do not wish to have an abortion after the first trimester, they need an abortion when their health is in danger and they can't carry out the pregnancy to full-term. He is in no means a doctor, and by stating what he believes is an "abortion" gives misleading information to the viewers. The credibility of the source is then affected because he is essentially giving people his opinion/belief instead of using facts. It is important to do one's own research when developing one's beliefs and values because anything given by the media can be tainted with their opinions and beliefs.
